Tall tree with trunk 2m or more, matures at 250-400 years. Leaves scale-like set closely on weeping branches. Flowers appear in September, ripening to pale blue seed(March) followed by black nut-like seed on a fleshy orange base in May. Abundant in high rainfall areas an lowland swampy forest throughout NZ.
