Maximum height: 15m
Medium forest tree of high altitudes. Dwarf tree at high elevations but to 15m at lower levels. Trunk to 1m diameter. Flowers are bright red, appear in September, mature fruit (winged nuts0 falls in April-May. This is the hardiest of all native trees and grows where winter frosts are severe and rainfall is intense. Distributed throughout NZ.
