Questions and Answers
Q: When will my tree be planted?
- We often wait and group tree sales together and plant them in batches.
- Summer in Kaikoura (Nov - Mar) is often too hot and too dry to plant trees.
- Our main planting times are autumn, early winter, late winter and spring (sometimes, the middle of winter is too frosty for young trees)
Q: How long before I receive my e-card?
As soon as we've planted your tree, its information is entered into our website database. As soon as this is all complete, we send you a confirmation email e-card which confirms your trees location, planting date, etc.
Q: Can I visit my tree?
Yes - the e-card we send you includes the GPS location of your trees' planting site, so you can visit the area at anytime in the future*.
If you paid for the (optional) GPS upgrade, your individual tree's unique number and its exact GPS location will have been recorded, so you can locate your specific tree at any time in the future*.
Our website provides a 'locate your tree' facility, which accurately shows where your tree has been planted, using Google Maps.
Beyond the Google Map representation, you will need your own GPS system to help locate your trees' planting site, or the tree itself.
NB: Please bear in mind that we've planted thousands of trees and therefore have thousands of customers. Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to assist you to find your tree. However, if you would like a Trees For Travellers member of staff (with a GPS system) to accompany you to help locate your tree, there's a purchaseable option within our website shop.
Q: Do you guarantee the health and survival of my tree?
Your tree purchase includes a couple of years monitoring and weed maintenance, etc. We will replace your tree once in the first 24 months, if it succums to the weather, predation, being trampled, etc. Beyond 24 months, your tree should be tall and healthy enough to survive above the weeds to a long age...
Q: Can I choose the planting location?
Unfortunately, not at this time - sorry!
* We plant where specially set-aside reserve land is available and cannot guarantee you will find your tree (however, you will pass loads of our other trees along the way!)
Please be careful, some planting sites are remote; without paths; you may have to walk across rocky, steep, hilly and uneven ground; there may be stream crossings, etc.
We recommend you wear strong footwear; let someone know where you're going; and take appropriate clothing for the potential weather conditions.
